General Membership:
MainStreet members are invited to attend the monthly “MainStreet Morning Mixer” on the 4th Thursday each month in the Commissioners’ meeting room at the Courthouse.

Activities and Accomplishments
for 2007
Board of Directors:
o Establish Business Improvement District for Downtown Steamboat Springs using focus groups, education, surveys, and petition drive
o Campaign for funding of the BID in a TABOR election in November
o Monitor activities of each of the committees
o Received 105% evaluation by state Main Street organization thereby achieving recognition by the National Main Street Center as a National Main Street Community
o Participation in Vision 2030 Community Update
o Participation on Colorado Community Revitalization Association Board representing the Colorado Main Street Communities
Design Committee:
o Participation in Streetscape Design Project – two year project – assisting in hiring the consultants, participation in community forums, direct contact with consultants regarding the proposed plans, relaying the work of the Design Committee to the consultants
o Co-organized Historic Preservation Forum
o Partners in Preservation
o Participation in interpretation project of historic places in Steamboat funded by a City grant
o Participation in the parking committee
o Initiated downtown traffic discussion with the public
Economic Restructuring Committee:
o Creation of Secret Shopper Program for members
o Monthly educational articles in “Downtowner” for Merchants
o Monthly success story profiling a downtown business in “Downtowner”
o Window Dressing Educational Workshop
o Window Dressing Contest for holiday windows
o Research on creating a benchmarking project to track conversion of customers to sales
o Co-sponsor of Jonathon Schechter speaking on growth trends and shifts in the economies of the rapidly growing resort communities in the mountain west
o Participation in the regional Cultural Heritage Tourism efforts
o Tracking of downtown sales tax numbers
o Sent 12 participants to the Jon Schallert Destination Creation Bootcamp in Longmont for 3 days
o Monthly Bootcamp Team meetings to reinforce and encourage change for those businesses attending the bootcamp
o Community Presentation by Jon Schallert for free as a result of the number of attendees at the Bootcamp
Promotion Committee:
o Twice a year Sidewalk Sales – Spring and Labor Day Weekend
o Coordination of Snow Sculptures with the high school for Winter Carnival
o Sponsor of Street Events for Winter Carnival
o Farmers Market weekly mid-June to Labor Day
o Construction Kick-off event with painted construction panels and hard-hat contest, Downtown Renaissance banners – recognized in the National Main Street Center’s monthly newsletter for the event
o Support of Steamboat Art Museum activities – fundraiser
o Weekly carriage rides on Thursday nights
o Downtown Hoedown and Chuckwagon Chili Challenge
o Promote First Friday Art Walks created by the Arts Community
o Light Up the Night Community Tree Lighting
o Shop Downtown First Campaign
o Participation in the Chamber Marketing Committee
o Organize and sponsor the Classic Car Cruises once a month
o Motorhead Madness event on Yampa Street – assist Steamboat Car Club in promoting and insurance
o Partial sponsor of free summer concerts
o General marketing in various forms of media to bring visitors downtown both summer and winter – Downtowner, TV18, Steamboat Magazine, Steamboat Guide, etc.
o Participation in the Western Heritage Partnership to enhance the Stockbridge Multi-modal Center as a Heritage Interpretation spot – sculpture being created
o Fiber Festival organizational meetings – for 2009 event
Organization Committee:
o Annual Meeting and Awards Program
o Monthly e-newsletter, What’s Up Downtown, to over 350 addresses
o Downtowner newspaper monthly to bring visitors and locals to the downtown and inform community of Main Street happenings/committee work
o Increased web presence
o Board development
o Membership services
o Host monthly membership meetings with featured speakers
o Fundraising efforts through membership sales
o Hosted 3-day CCRA Resource Team to help evaluate MainStreet program and recommend direction for the organization
o Quarterly updates to City Council
MainStreet Steamboat Springs has four active committees: Promotions, Economic Restructuring; Design; and Organization. These committees work hard for the preservation and enhancement of Historic Downtown Steamboat Springs. All these committees need new and active members. Drop in to any of the committee meetings to learn more and find out how you can get involved.
MEETING SCHEDULE:
MainStreet Morning Mixer: 4th Thursday of each month,
8:30am, Commissioner’s meeting room, Courthouse.
Board Meetings: 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month,
8:00am at Centennial Hall.
Promotions Committee: 1st Thursday of each
month, 9:00am at the Tread of Pioneers Museum.
Organization:
Design Committee: 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each
month, 8:30am at The Arts Depot.
Economic Restructuring Committee: 2nd Wednesday
of each month, 3:30pm at Alpine Bank.
